Newly formed LLCs and corporations face a litany of challenges, but businesses will be amazed by how many issues can be resolved or even averted with a happy and loyal employee base. The key to high retention rates and worker productivity is freedom. Employees should be free to contribute their expertise in the way they, and only they, know best.

This does not mean handing over managerial or administrative tasks to the sales force. It means being open to ideas and contributions from those workers. In addition, if an employee is free to broaden his or her responsibilities in a way that both parties can agree on, he or she will be much more prone to enjoy work and, therefore, become more productive.

Entrepreneurs and small business owners who have only recently launched their LLCs should look to the renowned furniture manufacturer Herman Miller for guidance. This company maintains an average employee retention period of 14 years and finished last year with a 3.5 percent turnover rate.

"People feel like they can bring their whole person to Herman Miller," said CEO Brian Walker. "Combine that with a creative culture that always seems to be trying to reinvent itself in almost anything that it does ... We try very hard to let people bring their passions to work."
