Los Angeles is well-known for its bustling community of startups and entrepreneurs, but it is also a city of red tape. Yet Californians looking to launch an LLC in the City of Angels may find hope in current mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s plans to help small businesses overcome the city’s bureaucratic hurdles.

The Mayor has assembled a team with significant private sector experience. Called the Office of Small Business Services, the team will provide assistance and regulatory aid to small businesses with little to no cost on taxpayers.

One of the individuals hired for Villaraigosa’s team is Austin Beutner, an investment banker and former partner at Blackstone Group. “Small business being a very important piece of our economy, we wanted to begin to address their needs beyond the broader policy programs,” Beutner told Inc. magazine. “Sometimes what a small business owner needs goes across many of the departments, so we need to make it so there should be one point of contact.”

An example of the sort of assistance the group seeks to provide small businesses with comes from a small luxury car dealership in the greater L.A. area. The Office of Small Business Services researched areas in the state where the company could receive tax credits, financial improvements and utility incentives, and thereby afforded the small company the ability to significantly expand within its tight financial means.
