Because of the volume of competition, New York City may be one of the most difficult places in the country to launch a startup LLC. To compensate, many startup incubator companies thrive with the sole purpose of helping launch even the most disadvantaged New York LLC.
It is an exciting time to be an entrepreneur in New York, as the environment for startups is becoming more conducive than ever. “Over the last decade, New York has been building a real tech center, where software, media, and ad-related startups are thriving, a venture capital community is growing and serial entrepreneurs are as commonplace as they are in Silicon Valley,” writes Therese Poletti in the Wall Street Journal.
Some of these startup incubators include NYU Poly Varick Street, a city-funded organization that offers work spaces for blossoming ventures. Most notably, Varick Street helped launch Pixable - a New York company that specializes in offering photo printing services for Facebook pictures. Like many startup companies, Pixable began in a small, cramped apartment. Incubator companies like Verick Street allow ventures to move their business into an office, and help provide them with vital advice, resources and growth incentives.
“(A work space) can be more cost effective, but that is not the best reason to do it. You’ll get knowledge sharing, energy, and a lot of camaraderie,” writes Fred Wilson, a New York venture capitalist, on his blog. “And you can’t put a price on those things when you are doing a startup.”
