Austin is hosting a Startup Weekend event that will bring together investors, business owners and developers for a 56-hour marathon to assist entrepreneurs forming an LLC in Texas.
The event will begin Friday, September 10, and organizers expect attendance of more than 75 entrepreneurs, according to the Austin Business Journal. But this event is more than just a seminar - it''s a weekend with a goal.
"We wanted to put a lot of like-minded people together for the weekend to build something instead of just talking about it, like other networking events," said Joey Pomerenke, one of the event organizers. "You get a chance to see how people work, find potential co-founders and end hopefully coming up with a prototype or startup."
He said that 10 percent of companies formed during these weekend bonanzas survive and go on to obtain capital investment.
There will be special speakers, including business attorneys and University of Texas advisers. Attendees are encouraged to come with a specific goal and product in mind.
Startup Weekend was founded by Andrew Hyde in 2007, and has held events in Toronto, New York, Houston, Washington D.C. and Europe.
