If business owners forming an LLC in Arizona want to grab the attention of potential customers via email marketing, the subject line must not only identify the company, but be unique enough to avoid being labeled as spam and deleted.
Like a news headline that entices readers, a subject line in an email needs to condense lots of information into a tight space, and using the "Four U Approach" can help encourage recipients to spent a minute and read the message, according to Brian Clark, a marketing consultant writing at Copyblogger.
A subject line that is "Useful, Ultra-specific, Unique and Urgent," is a sure-fire way to attract attention, says Clark. But if it doesn''t identify the sender, it may not be enough.
"Over time, the most compelling thing about an email message should be that it''s from you," Clark says. "Even before then, your recipient needs to know at a glance that you''re a trusted source. Either make it crystal clear by smart use of your ''From'' field, or start every subject line with the same identifier."
Getting an email noticed is no easy task; MessageLabs Intelligence reported that 92 percent of all email sent last month was spam.
