Using a sweepstakes or contest can be a great way to launch a new business, especially for entrepreneurs looking to form an LLC in New York, California, Texas or Arizona.

Sweepstakes and contests can actually be an inexpensive way to advertise or brand a product, says the Wall Street Journal.

While sweepstakes or drawings are good for generating a direct email list of potential clients, contests actually create more interest and interaction, helping to build a relationship with future customers.

Marketing consultant Pamela Geller told the WSJ that a contest forces entrants to do something beyond simply releasing information, such as answering trivia questions or voting for a favorite product.

"Contests attract people who might already be kind of interested in your product or service in the first place," Geller told the paper, noting they have a better chance of turning into future customers. "It''s a great way to get people really involved in your brand."

One of the best ways to hold these promotions is through online social networking sites such as Facebook. The site currently has more than 130 million users in the U.S., making it a popular and easy platform for businesses looking to create brand familiarity.
