Entrepreneurs looking to incorporate in California - a state with a blistering 12.3 percent unemployment rate - may take comfort in recent news from Intuit that finds job creation among small businesses nationwide grew by 0.3 percent in April.

The increase marks the addition of 60,000 jobs, as well as a 3.6 percent year-over-year gain, according to Monday's Small Business Employment Index.

"Small business employment is showing continued strength," said economist Susan Woodward, in a statement. "Employment is up, hours worked are up, and total compensation per employee is up. Moreover, employment is up across the country."

The report, which measures the more than 65,000 small firms on Intuit's payroll service, also noted increases in both hours worked and wage earnings for the sector, which may even suggest firms are spending more confidently.

California also noted a 0.3 percent gain in small business employment, while Arizona and Florida boasted the highest gains with 0.5 percent each.

While the economy is far from recovered, the national employment situation is one of the most important factors in a healthy economy, influencing consumer spending, business sales and even credit conditions.
