New York City has developed a reputation as a hub of the media and advertising industries. With ad agencies lining Madison Avenue and the overwhelming awe of Times Square, one would assume the city could market its way out of a box.
However, advertising executive MP Mueller recently wrote in The New York Times that the economic downturn has devastated not just businesses' and organizations' marketing budgets but also the overall creative output of agencies.
Of course, the recession has racked employment figures, lending trends, bankruptcy rates and consumer confidence, but few would expect it to stagnate creative marketing, especially considering entrepreneurial activity actually grew during the recession, according to the Kauffman Foundation.
"Fear of losing your job is [a] killer of creativity," Mueller pointed out. "This is especially true of large corporations. When a company's culture is driven by the numbers, paralysis flourishes."
Accordingly, entrepreneurs looking to form an LLC in New York - or really any location for that matter - need to step outside their comfort zones and be confident in their ideas. What one may fear is inappropriate may only seem so because it is different.
