Hiring among California small businesses grew in February, according to data released this week by Intuit, providing a degree of encouragement for job-seekers and entrepreneurs.
Small business employment grew by 0.4 percent for the month, according to Intuit's payroll of more than 60,000 small companies. That figure is slightly higher than the 0.3 percent registered nationwide and equates to roughly 50,000 new jobs for the month.
However, entrepreneurs looking to form an LLC in Arizona may be even more optimistic, as that state noted a 0.7 percent employment gain.
"Small businesses are hiring and their people are working more hours, but measures of compensation are pretty flat, showing that the labor market is still soft," said economist Susan Woodward. "While the rise in employment is good news, this rate of increase is still not going to get us back to full employment very fast."
The Golden State also noted improvements in the business sales market, as more than 690 California small- to mid-sized firms were sold this month, according to BizBen.com.
