President Barack Obama assured a gathering of small business owners and entrepreneurs in Cleveland, Ohio, that they are the driving force of the U.S. economy and should be afforded the appropriate economic freedoms and resources to help move the nation into the future.

The stop is the latest in the president's push to focus on education reform, innovation and technology investment as the keys to "winning the future," asserting that the meeting is a "working session" and not a "photo op." Other analysts suggest it is also a move to help re-establish ties with the business community.

"We are here to hear from you directly, we want your stories, your successes, your failures, what would make it easier for you [to] grow, what would make it easier for you to create new jobs," said Obama, according to the Associated Press.

Since last fall's midterm congressional elections, much of the president's legislative and executive agendas have been framed in a more centrist light, touting the importance of free enterprise in driving the economy and boasting of his administration's tax cuts and regulatory reforms as helpful to American families and small firms.

Earlier this month, Obama met with business leaders in the Silicon Valley region of California to discuss similar points on technology and innovation and, many hope, encourage tech entrepreneurs looking to incorporate in California.
