Adding to a recent flurry of tech ventures and entrepreneurial movements in New York City is the new startup incubator General Assembly in the Flatiron district.

While the incubator does provide cash-strapped startups and ventures with a location to do business, GA also abides by a university setting theme. Rooms are constructed like classrooms. Seminars and courses are offered on a frequent basis. Bike storage areas and even a library are part of the 20,000-square-foot space.

"We wanted to recreate the feeling of a college campus," Adam Pritzker, one of GA's founders, told the New York Times. "Something that was outside the structure of an institution but had the same academic tendencies."

But the incubator will not limit its educational offerings to members, as this spring the company will begin offering lectures and courses to the public.

"We wanted to make sure it was accessible to anyone in New York that was interested in technology and design," Pritzker added.

Unlike other New York incubators, GA generates revenue through desk rentals, community memberships and sponsorships from companies including Rackspace, Skype and Silicon Valley Bank. As the company gets into full swing with its official launch this week, the company is hoping they will help at least a few entrepreneurs incorporate in New York City.
