The U.S. Small Business Administration is now accepting grant proposals from organizations interested in providing small businesses with training, counseling and mentoring programs as part of the new Small Business Teaming Pilot program.
Established as part of the Small Business Jobs and Credit Act passed last September, the SBTP program will award 10 to 20 grants between $250,000 and $500,000 for the fiscal year 2011. The grants will be awarded to private entities and organizations that have been in existence for the past three years.
The SBA hopes the programs will help spur innovation and growth among small businesses - a sector that employs nearly 50 percent of the private workforce and is seen as a crucial component of a recovering economy.
"The Small Business Jobs Act provides critical resources to help small businesses continue to drive economic recovery and create jobs," said SBA Administrator Karen Mills. "The teaming pilot program will help put contract dollars into the hands of small businesses, create job opportunities through the teaming arrangements, help drive innovation and promote economic growth for our nation's economy."
Startups seeking to incorporate in New York, Texas, California or any other active entrepreneurial sectors may want to consider SBA-backed loans, which have helped support more than $12 billion in small business lending since the passage of the Jobs Act.
