A survey released this week by CheckPoint HR showed 39 percent of small to mid-sized businesses in the New York tri-state area plan on hiring in 2011 - a figure that bodes well for entrepreneurs looking to form an LLC in New York.
But a new CareerBuilder survey may suggest that the tri-state area is doing better than the rest of the country. The study of more than 1,350 small businesses nationwide found only 21 percent of small businesses plan on hiring full-time staff this year.
However, the new report does align small business optimism with that of the New York City area, as 51 percent of small businesses claimed they are in a better financial situation than they were one year ago, compared to the 50 percent noted by respondents in the CheckPoint survey, which asked virtually the same question.
"Small businesses had been in a holding pattern where they were less likely to decrease headcount compared to larger organizations but also less likely to add new staff," said Matt Ferguson, CEO of CareerBuilder.
The study also found 50 percent of small firms cited the cost of health insurance as the biggest challenge facing their business in 2011, which signifies the largest claim by the survey's respondents.
