Coming up with a good business plan can help any entrepreneur who is creating a California LLC, and a business consultant at Entrepreneur magazine says the process might actually be enjoyable.

It all begins with a SWOT brainstorming session: Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. Tim Berry writes at Entrepreneur.com that this doesn''t need to be an official process that is etched in stone; instead, simply getting business owners and employees together can encourage dialogue and ideas.

Berry also notes that talking to people outside the business can help, whether it''s future customers or other business owners.

"Don''t cheat yourself and talk only to the people you always talk to anyway," Berry says. "Stretch yourself further and find some people you don''t know, so you get a fresh look. Ask them for their time, not as a survey taker but as the owner or manager of the business."

Lastly, Berry recommends using one''s imagination, whether it''s dreaming about where the company will be in five years, or creating a prototypical customer to help with marketing.

SCORE, a nonprofit organization that provides free business advice, recommends that entrepreneurs also have a clear company mission identified that they can express easily to others.
