As an investment in infrastructure not seen since the construction of the U.S. interstate highway system, proposed nationwide high-speed rail services are being proposed as a means to further connect the country.

The initiative is expected to create new jobs, business opportunities and accessibility that could improve the economy - recalling the accomplishments of public works projects initiated by the Roosevelt administration during the Great Depression.

As a center of commerce and technological innovation, California is being considered one of the most important regions for the proposed rail system, as it could produce lines from Los Angeles to San Francisco at speeds of up to 220 mph - a rate that promises a trip of less than two hours between the two cities.

A report released Thursday by the U.S. Public Interest Research Group suggests that a high-speed rail system "could help position the nation for economic success in the 21st century while creating short-term jobs in construction and long-term jobs in ongoing maintenance and operation."

Aside from potentially easing the Golden State's 12.2 percent unemployment rate, the transportation network could lead to new entrepreneurial ventures and small business growth - effectively improving waning interests in launching an LLC in California.
