In recognition of Veterans Day, the Small Business Administration along with Syracuse University announced Wednesday they are extending their partnership to provide entrepreneurial veterans with greater opportunities to launch an LLC, corporation or small business.
According to the SBA, nearly 25 percent of American veterans claim they are interested in starting or buying a small business. The growing partnership between the SBA and SU will aim to provide veterans - particularly of the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan - with the resources, educational programs and services to help them pursue such ambitions.
"We often speak about the sacred trust we have with our service men and women, and one way we honor that trust is ensuring they have every possible opportunity for success," said SBA administrator Karen G. Mills. "When it comes to entrepreneurship, their success also means success in driving economic growth and creating jobs."
In 2009, the SBA provided $450,000 in funding to help expand Syracuse University's Entrepreneurship Boot Camp for Veterans with Disabilities program to other campuses. The initiative is now spreading to Louisiana State University - its seventh campus.
In addition, the SBA announced it will donate $2.6 million to new programs aimed at supporting entrepreneurial endeavors for veterans.
