As employee healthcare costs skyrocket nationwide, many businesses have begun implementing wellness programs to help promote healthier workers and reduce insurance costs for employers.
In the Golden State, Blue Shield of California announced Tuesday it has received three distinguished awards for its efforts to promote workplace health and well-being. The awards were granted by the American Heart Association and the California Task Force on Youth and Workplace Wellness.
"We have committed to defining a next-generation wellness model to keep our employees healthy and engaged," said Marianne Jackson, senior vice president for human resources at Blue Shield of California. "The innovative approach and holistic design to Wellvolution is paying off by helping our employees get moving, eat well, stay tobacco-free and maintain positive emotional well-being."
Across the country, businesses, nonprofits, government bodies and even school districts are launching wellness programs to help combat the growing threat of healthcare costs. A study by the National Business Group on Health released a report in August claiming healthcare expenses for employers are expected to increase by 8.9 percent in 2011 - a figure that is beginning to weigh more heavily on small businesses seeking to launch an LLC in California.
