Although the U.S. economy has remained stagnant and entrepreneurship growth and performance has slipped to third in the world behind Denmark and Canada, according to the Small Business Administration's September rankings, entrepreneurial fervor has remained.
In an attempt to boost entrepreneurial development and LLC filings in California, New York and the rest of the country, several small business movements have emerged. The most recent initiative, American Express OPEN's Small Business Saturday, will see participation from noted companies and organizations including Facebook, Yelp and SCORE and will aim to bolster small business consumerism on the Saturday after Thanksgiving - November 27.
Another organization, Independent We Stand, launched in September, serves to promote locally-owned and operated small businesses. The group sees local small businesses as the heart and soul of communities, driving job growth and diverting funds back into the region.
"Then there's the movement to establish a National Entrepreneurs' Day on November 19," adds Carol Tice in Entrepreneur magazine. "Supporters are still pursuing approval from President Barack Obama on that to make it an official national day of recognition. In the meanwhile, the Kauffman Foundation's Global Entrepreneurship Week, which includes that date, will celebrate National Entrepreneurs' Day for the first time this year."
